Our Mark has been hankering for a Harley chop for awhile now. Desperate (bless 'im) suggested talking to me about it. He did. A plan was hatched.
I had recently picked up a complete evo lump out of a '97 electraglide with 7K on the clock. so Mark agreed that this would be a good start. We formed a picture of what was wanted, a good bit of rake, not too much stretch.
I sort of prodded Mark in the direction of a FXR softail; partly because it was an obvious choice for this drivetrain, and also 'cos it works very well on the road.
So: here we go, Frame with forks:

Frame, swingarm, rear wheel, & fender mounted:

For the yokes, instead of the usual billet stuff, we're using an old pre-billet trick of turning a stock HD wideglide bottom yoke upside-down. This is a bit more involved when using 3 degree raked ones, as you can imagine.

I'll be doing more on this in a couple of weeks.

I'll ride anything me, cept scooters, hate little wheels. But I like working on the Harley more than any of me other bikes (which is probably a good thing as I spend more time working on it than riding it  ).

Funny you shouldmention that; Mark's been agonising over what tank to use for awhile.
In the end I showed him a Harley Deuce tank which I had on the shelf and we agreed that once narrowed, it'd work out fine.
The tank on the orange bike is also a narrowed deuce tank, but I'm going to narrow this one differently.

Well, got some more done, mostly tedious stuff that takes forever but doesn't add too much to the overall scheme of things.
Whatever; I'll bore you all with it anyway

Battery carrier with mountings for all the electrics done:

Image

RH side panel:
Image

I used to use japanese style rubber grommets to retain side panels, but never much liked them. Customers would mount ignition switches on them & they'd fall off with the extra weight. Something better needed. So I do this latch mechanism now: Left pic shows finger operating the latch and right shows the barbed bits on the panel itself
Image

Left panel is held by screws accessed when the RH one is off. Holes are for plug leads.
Image

Mark decided against mid-mount pegs in the end so I made up some forwards for him. The Fwd mounts on the FXR softail frame come out 2" further forward than a stock FXST so since Marks legs aren't quite of Twizzle proportions, I set the pegs back a bit. Its all steel; with a fabricated tubular brake pedal. trying to avoid billet stuff at the mo'. Used to be cool but now folks just assume you bought it all off ebay.
Image

LH one is much simpler, thanks to the Electraglide primary which incorporates the gearshift pivot.
